Snail in the Pot

Somedays I feel like a giant snail

Salted and boiled

Corkscrewed out

From my protective shell

Splatted on a plate

With herbs and spices

Stabbed with a fork

Ripped with a knife

Somehow barely

Clinging to life

Screaming internally

Help me! Help me!

But nobody’s listening—

They’re taking a bite.

But I don’t feel that way at all today

My squishy self

Stuffed in my shell

Sliming my way

Through another day

Free for now from the pot.
