Ask and Receive

Mark 11:24

You said whatever I ask in prayer

I will certainly receive

If only I believe.

Do I not believe enough?

Is lack of belief the reason

There’s no gold band upon my hand?

Is poor faith the reason why

My little house is and always will be

Devoid of the 3 a.m. cry

And the gentle tapping of small bare feet

Running on the wooden floors?

Is my faith that weak?

If I truly believe

Would I stand firm as a tree

Instead of collapsing swiftly

As a paper doll

Standing in a gentle breeze?

Is faulty faith to blame

For the years spent in shadow

Daily aching for the sun?

Is it my fault

She never got better?

Is it my fault

She’s gone?

I thought I believed enough

Despite this weight of sin.

But maybe it will be different this time

So I will ask again.
